 Elizabeth Joan Jennings
Poem

She kept an antique shop – or it kept her.
Among Apostle spoons and Bristol glass,
The faded silks, the heavy furniture,
She watched her own reflection in the brass
Salvers and silver bowls, as if to prove
Polish was all, there was no need of love.
And I remember how I once refused
To go out with her, since I was afraid.
It was perhaps a wish not to be used
Like antique objects. Though she never said
That she was hurt, I still could feel the guilt
Of that refusal, guessing how she felt.
Later, too frail to keep a shop, she put
All her best things in one narrow room.
The place smelt old, of things too long kept shut,
The smell of absences where shadows come
That can’t be polished. There was nothing then
To give her own reflection back again.
And when she died I felt no grief at all,
Only the guilt of what I once refused.
I walked into her room among the tall
Sideboards and cupboards – things she never used
But needed; and no finger marks were there,
Only the new dust falling through the air.

In the first stanza the poem has gave description of her Grandmothers antique. She her grandmother cherished the antique shop more than anything or anyone. In her she kept many antique it such as apostle spoons and Bristol glass. The shop was funded by heavy furniture. She was very much attached wile antique shop. This attachment described the very first line of the poem…….

“She kept an antique shop or it kept her”

She had replaced family members with antique items which she uses to polish to keep their newness. She found love in those lifeless items only which is described in the last line of the stanza……

“Polish was all, there was no need of love”
In the Second stanza Elizabeth Jennings expresses her guilt which is still that in her heart. Once her grandmother wanted but she at once refused without even thinking how she would feel. She refused to go out with her grandmother because she was afraid and didn’t want to be used like antique objects. When she refused her grandmother did not express her feeling that she was hurt but now Elizabeth Jennings deeper into her past she guilt. Her guilt is very well express in the fifth and six line of the second stanza…….

“I still could feel the guilt of that   refusal, guessing how she felt”

Now she cannot express her guilt to her grandmother as she is no more.
In the Third stanza the poet tells about death of her grandmother. In her last days her grandmother becomes very weak that she could not take care of her antique shop. In the very first line of the third stanza the poet expresses weakness of her grandmother……

“Last, too frail to keep a shop, she put”

The shop had no owner now as its honor had died. There is one word in the third stanza shadow come which mean death has arrived to take grandmother away now no polish cab return her back to life the think. Which she kept in her so, started smiling old because there caretaker was no more. Elizabeth Jennings grandmother loved her shop she had feeling for old the antique object that she kept in the shop in other word we can say the grandmother for shop and the shop for her grandmother with the death of the grandmother. The shop lost “It’s life” her death left the poet with the guilt which will be there in her heart for the rest of her life.
In the last stanza the poet again talks about her guilt. The guilt of what she once refused when her grandmother was died. There was no “Grief” that guilt made her feel sad that she feel just “The guilt”. And that guilt made her feel sad that if her grandmother would have alive she would have abolished to her but with the death of her grandmother that guilt left in her heart for the lifelong. The Elizabeth Jennings enters in the room after the death of her grandmother she notices no figure marks or any of the objects. All she notices whole the dust which was falling through the air with the word sign board of the cupboards. The poet wants to say that for her grandmother the antique of the object of the shop was everything as she replaced her family member with such objects. She fended…….

“Oneness with them through them was lifeless”.

The shop was the only reason for which grandmother lived but she is no more now if there is anything remains in the shop is just dust……

My vew about story "The Nightingale and the Rose"

About author
"The Nightingale and the rose" story written by Wilde,Oscar  born Irish [1854-1900]. He was English poet, novelist ans playwright. Oscar was the leader of the aesthetic movement that advocated "Art for art's sake". The nightingale and the rose published 1888- A fairly tale about a nightingale who presses her Brest again a thorn until a rose inborn.
Summary
"The Nightiangle and the Rose" is a story of a student who truelove loves professors daughter. The student wants to dance with her in the party of the prince but the girl ask for a Red rose she would dance with him only when the student will bring her rose. The boy is so absents that there is no any red rose in all his garden. He expressive his grief and says,
"On what little things does happiness depend"

The "want" of a red rose has made his life wreath.
There was oak tree was in the garden from which a Nightingale was watching him expressing his grief. Nightingale was so impressed by the love that he had for the girl that the Nightingale said,
"Here at last is true lover"

The boy was a sitting in the garden that if he bring her a red rose. She will dance with him till down but unfortunately that was no red rose and therefore that dire will have no need of the boy and his heart will break.
Nightingale use to sing beautiful songs of love. So, Nightingale said
"What is joy to me, to him is pain"

For Nightingale love is the most precious thing that it can not even weighed in the balance of gold.
The boy goes on expressing his disappointment he flung himself on the grass and "Barie his face in his hand" and wept butterfly and daisy to Nightingale while the boy was erring. When the Nightingale said his is crying for a red rose Lizard remarked
"How very ridiculous"

But the Nightingale-
"Understood the secret of the student's sorrow"

The Nightingale couldn't see a true lover in grief, So he flue over the garden and ask a tree to give him a red rose but the tree
"Shook his head". As its roses were as white as the form of the sea.
The Nightingale went to the another tree and ask for a red-rose. The tree also shook its head and said its roses are yellow than the daffodil but the tree suggested to go to its brother. Who grows and perhaps  it will give him what the Nightingale.

The Nightingale went to that tree and again asked for the red rose but the tree said its roses are red. Or the winter has chilled its veins the Frostbelt has nipped its bird. Therefore the tree shall have no roses at all for the entire year. The Nightingale asked for the solution as the Nightingale wanted the rose at any cost.
The tree suggested the Nightingale if the Nightingale wants a red rose than the Nightingale must stain at with its own heart's-blood. And the Nightingale must see to the tree with its heart against a thorn. An the thorn "Must pierce" Nightingale heart and the life -blood of Nightingale must flow in the tree's veins,When the Nightingale heard the solution. He said,
"Death is a great price to pay for a red rose"

The Nightingale promise the student he will built the rose out of music by moon light and stain it with his own hearts blood. All that Nightingale asked of him in written is that
"You will be true lover for love is wiser than philosophy"

When the Nightingale promise the student of bringing him a red rose. The student looked up and said addressing the Nightingale indeed sing beautiful song but Nightingale can not sacrificed for any one.

When the moon arrived in the sky the Nightingale flue to the rose tree and set the Brest against the thorn. All night the Nightingale sang beautiful song and the thorn went deeper and deeper into the Nightingale braes. The Nightingales sang
"The birth of passion in the" soul of a man and a mad"
As a result a marvelous rose blossom him but the Nightingale voice grew faint the Nightingale felt something choking in her threat. When the rose was finished the tree told to the Nightingale
"Look! look!
The rose is finished now"
Nightingale was dead by their time.
When a noon the student oped his window and looked out he notice a beautiful red rose on the tree and out of joy he exclaimed.
"I have never seen any rose like it in all my life it is so beautiful"

The student plucked the rose and went to the professor's house. Thinking in mind that his love will dance with him and will accept his red rose. The daughter of professor was sitting on the door-way the boy told her he brought her a red rose and now she has to dance with him as she said that she would dance with him if he would bring her a red rose. The student out of extract.
"Here is the radest rose in whole the world"
And they will dance together but the girl said
"I'am afraid it will not go with my dress".

She further said the chamberlain's newphew brought her a beautiful neckless and therefore she will not dance with the student instead. She will dance with the newphew. She said
"Everybody knows that jewels cost far more than flowers"
The student got very disappointed and throw the rose into the street. A cart wheel went over it.
Student went to his home and said out of disappointment
"What a silly thing love is"

"It is not half as useful as Logic"
According to the student love does not prove anything
"And making one believe things that are not true",things that are not going to happen.
         "It is quite unpractical"

In the last few dialogues of student we find his beliefs for love after being dumped by the girl. He started thinking that in this age to be practical is everything. He return to his room began to read.
Theme of the Nightingale and the Rose
The theme of the story The Nightingale and the Rose. The story Nightingale has a lot of depth in to days generation people has given a wrong definition of "Love". Love is not about geeing the one you love. Iris about making sacrifice for the one you love or you care for. The definition of the love has been changed today generation. Now it is all about getting the one whom you love in the story the Nightingale care for the boy and therefore Nightingale sacrifice for her very life. This shows that
"We still have home for the re-evolution of human desires"

On the contradictory the girl whom the students love shows as the darker side of it. First she demands for the red rose and once the boy get that rose for her she rejects not only the rose but also "True feeling", love of the boy by saying
"Everybody knows that jeels cost far more than flowers"
She gives important to the neck less, which was brought by chamberlain's nephew she will nephew with the love of the student. She rejects the rose of the student by giving a reason that it does match the dress.
"I afraid it will not go with my dress"

It is not rose which she rejects but also the underline emotions. The student was very my frustrated  when he was not find the red rose and his out bust this disappointment by saying
"On what little thing does happens depends".

When they Nightingale came to know that she has to sacrifice her life just for the red rose without any situation. The Nightingale was ready and committed that even at the cost of her life she would bring the red rose for the boy.
"Nightingale"
"Death is a great prise to pay for a red rose"

Conclusion

Here we see the contrast in the nature Nightingale and the girl. While Nightingale sacrifice her own life for the boy for whom she care on the other hand. The girl rejected the boy who loved her truelove when the boy was rejected he looses faith from love.

My view about poem -"A Baby Running Barefoot"

Introduction-

David Herbert Lawrence [11 September 1885- 2 March 1930] was an English novelist, poet, playwright, essayist, literary critic and painter. He wrote work such as
"Sons and lovers"

"Women in love"

"The Rainbow"

"The Foy"

"The lost girl"

Many of his colleagues described him as photographer. He was a visionary thinker and he in true sense represents modernism in English literature.

    Poem
When the bare feet of the baby beat across the grass
The little white feet nod like, white flowers in the wind,
They poise and run like rippies lapping across the water :
And the sight of their white play among the grass
Is like a little robin's song , winsome,
Or as two white butterflies settle in the cup of one flower
For a moment, then the away with a flutter of wings.

I long for the baby to wander hither to me
Like a wind-shadow wandering over the water,
So that she can stand on my khee
With her little bare feet in my hands,
                  cool like syringa buds,
Firm and silken like pink young peony flowers.

In the first line the poet talks about the "Barefeet" of baby who runs across the grass. He then tells about her little white feet, nod like the flower, nod in the wind he beautifully had described. How a baby child runs across the grass out of innocence to watch baby running across medowfield is the most beautiful sight D.H.Lawrence brilliantly and beautifully has captured the beauty of little baby's play in his poem.

When baby runs barefooted it this sight which soothes your eyes. He compares baby's white play with the song of robin. Robin song its listeners in the same way the sight of baby running barefooted attracts. All the watchers, you cannot take of your eyes when a child is playing in the Medlow-field.

The poet has compare baby's to feet with two white butterflies, like two white butter settled in the cup of one flower baby's barefoot set in the grass. The poet has compare grass with the cup of flower and two white baby's white feet with two white butterflies. Baby's white feet also does not stop at one place like white butterfly it run away from one place to another like white butterfly away with a flutter of wings.

The poet wants baby to wander around him like wind shadow over the water. He want to enjoy the innocence of little baby it also happen sometime that some of us do not enjoy childhood like others and when we see such little baby playing around. We see are innocence in them more than the babies we enjoy their play as it not only soothe our soul than the poet compares her little barefoot with syringe buds, and pink peony flowers baby's buds and firm and silken like pink young peony flowers.

Conclusion
Thus in this poem the poet describes not only beauty of the baby but her childlike innocence.

"The Hairy Ape"

 The Hairy Ape

Introduction
Eugene O'Neill was born in Broadway hotel room in New York city on October 16,1888. He was first American dramatist and receive the Noble prize for literature. All of O'Neill play are written from a personal point of view and reflect on the tragedy of the human condition. His plays deal specifically with the American tragedy, rooted in American history and social movements.
            Eugene O'Neill

Yank is the protagonist of the play who is portrayed as a British and laborer. Who search for a sense of belonging in a world controlled by the rich like: Nazareth steel. The play is divided into eight scenes and there are many laborers like yank in the play with some high class characters as well those characters are Mildred Douglas, her Aunt, The secretary at I.W.W. [Industrial works of the world]. A Gentleman, Second Engineer etc. Yank's follow workers are paddy, Long and other firemen. So, from the very beginning O'Neill has started presenting the class different with the use of language and other description.

O'Neill prominent concern

O'Neill real intention behind writing such a mini play is to only figure out the situation of oppressed industrial working people or class. No doubt, the play is the representation of classification but it also demonstrates how the working class people are treated by their upper class people. Mildred Douglas is from upper class society and she behaves very ruddy with yank and call him "A filthy beast" Which makes him undergoes a Crisis of identity. Before that yank feels that he is  the master of the ship as he is the leader of his working group and engine of the ship "Transantlantic Ocean liner". This play also presents how the society is divided into two parts specifically
The upper class and the lower class

Moreover, the rich are becoming richer while the poor are getting. Poorer and O'Neill has drawn the reader's attention towards the major problem of the working class with the portrayal of firemen that the world is having the only desire to be master in life. It can be also considered as,
  "The Master-Slave Mentality"

Because each character in the drama of life desires to be master in his or her life. Master want to control their servant and slaves become conscious about their condition and also try to suppress their slaves or the persons who are inferior to them. For example, in the play,Yank, through he is a slave a worker, tries to handle his fellow firemen by considering himself as a team leader and the master of ship because he thinks that because of his stoking the cool, the ship moves and he drives the huge ship. This is how he wishes to be a master of slaves.
Eugene O'Neill has perhaps, clearly demonstrated the American condition during his time. That period it also called industrialized one as if was highly affected by it and the the condition of laborers, because of this industries become pitiable. They were not having their belongingness something special which they can call their own or identity itself.

The masters are just like the "Ring-Master" and the slaves like yank, paddy, Long and other are just like their pet animals who are played by their ring masters. People like  Nazareth Steel exploit their workers who belong to industrialist society.
Throughout the play yank searches for his real identity but finds none. O,Neill indirectly asks very significant or suggestive question like: What is more important being dirty as a slave or being filthy or the masters them selves? Where does their filthiness come from? From their body or mind? It is mind then neither yank nor other firemen but the upper class people are filthy. So for as their thinking regarding superiority is concerned.

As the low class people do not have their own belongingness, if also shows the question which are raised to their existence. All the workers like paddy, Long, yank etc. Consider that transatlantic ocean liner as their house. They do not have their own house but their work place become their livelihood is something serious problem caused in their life. Though they are free they are bound by their masters so, it can be said that they are:
        "Free  without freedom"

conclusion
As the industrial environment is presented as toxic ans dehumanizing, O'Neill present how the laborers are seen by the master also presents how Humanity is subsiding in this materialistic era. Yank has also been interpreted as representative of the human condition, alienated from nature by his isolated consciousness, unable to find belonging in any social group or environment. This play also reveals how deeply and rigidly class is culture and the cultural and financial bounderious it erects.

"Satire"

Nearly everybody is a satirist in a small way: The school boy who writes rude words about his teacher: The comedian, the television who does a life list imitation of the prime minister, even you and I, sitting in the coffee shop and complaining about the weakens of the world and the foolishness of our leaders the real satirist however different from most of us, both in the strength of his feeling and in having the wide in genius to express it in novel, poem or play. He must have some of the qualities of the moralist or the preacher and the frown- because the best way of attacking weakness and foolishness is by lashing at them.

It can be argued that a light hearted satire is more effective in the end then the fierce indignation.
The example of Light hearted satire can be seen in Chaucer’s "The foliage to Canterbury tales" and in Shakespearean comedies like

                "Love's labor’s lost"

"As you like it"

In "trolleybus" nearly all ecclesiastical persons are describes in a good tempered way with a satirical teach, In "Love's labor’s lost", there is an amazing satire an what is now called "The six war"  there is much fun at the expend of foolishly effected courtier sapid school masters. "As you like it" Satires various fashionable futures of the 1590 the chief weapon's of a satirist are wide, Irony, infection. The simplest among them is invention defined in the dictionary as
"A violence attend in words" The best example of invective can be found in Dryden’s make face. He Know where in Dryden directly attests his contemporary writer like shade well. When it is used by the satirist it must be control by good ease test and law of libel can some time cause serious difficult people. Who are a lie and recognizable, as Aldus Huxley did in "point counter point", and as Hillier Bells did add about the same time in his lines to "Don"[professor]. It should be explain that "Don" is a word used in must English university and especially in oxford and Cambridge for professors and other high level teachers. The particular Don in the poem was a famous historian, who had quarreled with Bell's friend G.K. Chesterton by reputing the short hear sound "Don" over and over again he emphasized his contempt as though with the blows of hammers.

"Don clerical, Don ordinary,
Don self absorbed and solitary:
Don here and there, Don epileptic, Don middle class
Don phonetic, Don dull, Don brutish,
Don peclantic, Don hieratical, Don bad,
Don sportive, Don three corers mad"
This peace has the spirit and energy which makes fine inventive.
Irony is equally effective weapon of a satirist but demands a bit cindering to make it out chocker’s irony in describing "The wife of bath" is less perceptible: it is difficult to understand weather choker advice his fashionable women or criticize her in the following line
"The was a wealthy women throughout her life: husbands at churl door she had five"
There are many satirists like pope, swift, Dryden, Charles etc. Whose writing directly or indirectly presents their satirical views?
For example- Charles Dickens has demonstrated his     satirical opinions during his era, in his writings like

                                    "Oliver twist

                                "Hard times"

                       "David copper field"

He strongly satirizes over the idea of child laborer shaft, another prominent figure’s is swift. Who has presented his satirical views in his well known writing work, "Gulliver’s travels" in which he satirizes over the political atmosphere during his ere. John Dryden most important satire is

                       "Absalom and Acidophiles"

               Alder Huxley- "Brave new world

Allen Pop- "The rape of the lock"

Conclusion
To sum up, one can say that satire is the medium of making the readers of writer aware of the reality; moral values and the genuine reason for producing it.
